18Afterthesethings,Isawanothermessengercomedownfromheaven,havinggreatpower,andtheearthwaslightenedwithhisglory.
2Andhecriedwithastrongvoice,saying,“Isfallen,isfallenBabylonthegreat,andhasbecomethedwellingplaceofdemons,andtheprisonofeveryuncleanspirit,andtheprisonofeveryuncleanandhatefulbird[,andtheprisonofeveryuncleanbeast].
3Forallthenationshavedrunkofthewineofthefuryofherfornication,andthekingsoftheearthhavecommittedfornicationwithher,andthemerchantsoftheearthhavegrownrichthroughthemightofherluxury.”
4AndIheardanothervoicefromheaven,saying,“Comeoutofher,mypeople,thatyouallbenotpartakersofhersinsandthatyouallreceivenotofherplagues.
5Forhersinshavereacheduntoheaven,andGodhasrememberedherunjustdeeds.
6Repayᵈherevenassherepaidᵈanddoubleuntoherdoubleaccordingtoherworks,inthecupwhichshehasmixed,mixtoherdouble.
7Howmuchshehasglorifiedherselfandlivedinluxury,somuchtormentandmourninggiveher.Forshesaysinherheart,‘Isitaqueen,andamnowidow,andshallinnowayseemourning.’
8Thereforeshallherplaguescomeinoneday,death,andmourning,andfamine,andsheshallbeburnedupwithfire,forstrongistheLordGodwhojudgesher.”
9Andthekingsoftheearth,whohavecommittedfornicationandlivedinluxurywithher,shallweepandwailoverher,whentheyshallseethesmokeofherburning,
10standingafaroffforthefearofhertorment,saying,“Woe,woethegreatcityBabylon,thestrongcity!Forinonehourthyjudgmenthascome.”
11Andthemerchantsoftheearthshallweepandmournoverher,fornonebuystheirmerchandiseanymore,
12themerchandiseofgold,andsilver,andpreciousstones,andofpearls,andfinelinen,andpurple,andsilk,andscarlet,andallthyinewoodˣ,andeveryvesselofivory,andeveryvesselofmostpreciouswoodˣ,andofbrass,andiron,andmarble,
13andcinnamon,andamomum,andincense,andointments,andfrankincense,andwine,andoil,andfineflour,andwheat,andcattle,andsheep,andhorses,andcarriages,andbodies,andlivesᵖofmen.
14“Andtheripefruitthatthylifeᵖlustedafterhaspassedawayfromyou,andallthethingswhichweredelicaciesandbrighthaveperishedfromyou,andtheyshallfindthemnomoreatall.”
15Themerchantsofthesethings,whogrewrichbyher,shallstandafaroffforthefearofhertorment,weepingandmourning,
16saying,“Woe,woethegreatcity,thatwasclothedinfinelinen,andpurple,andscarlet,anddeckedwithgold,andpreciousstones,andpearls!
17Forinonehoursuchvastricheshavebeenmadedesolate.”Andeveryshipmaster,andeveryonewhosailstoaplace,andsailors,andasmanyasworkthesea,stoodafaroff,
18andcriedwhentheysawthesmokeofherburning,saying,“Whatcityislikethisgreatcity?”
19Andtheycastdustontheirheadsandcried,weepingandmourning,saying,“Woe,woethegreatcity,inwhichallwhohadtheshipsintheseagrewrichbyreasonofhercostliness!Forinonehourisshemadedesolate.
20Begladoverher,Oheaven,andyousaintsⁱ,andapostles,andprophets,forGodhaspronouncedjudgmentforyouonher.”
21Andastrongmessengerliftedupastoneasagreatmillstoneandcastitintothesea,saying,“SowithviolenceshallthegreatcityBabylonbecastdown,andshallbefoundnomoreatall.
22Andthevoiceofharpers,andmusicians,andofpipers,andtrumpeters,shallbeheardnomoreatallinyou,andnocraftsman,ofwhatsoevercrafthebe,shallbefoundanymoreinyou,andthevoiceofamillstoneshallbeheardnomoreatallinyou;
23andthelightofalampshallshinenomoreatallinyou,andthevoiceofthebridegroomandofthebrideshallbeheardnomoreatallinyou:forthymerchantswerethegreatmenoftheearth,forbythysorcerieswereallthenationsdeceived.
24Andinherwasfoundthebloodofprophets,andofsaintsⁱ,andofallwhowereslainupontheearth.”
