9Andthefifthmessengerblew,andIsawastarfallenfromheavenuntotheearth,andtohimwasgiventhekeyoftheshaftofthebottomlesspit.
2Andheopenedtheshaftofthebottomlesspit;andthereascendedasmokeoutoftheshaft,asthesmokeofagreatfurnace;andthesunandtheairweredarkenedfromthesmokeoftheshaft.
3Andtherecameoutofthesmokelocustsupontheearth,anduntothemwasgivenpower,asthescorpionsoftheearthhavepower.
4Anditwassaiduntothemthattheyshouldnothurtthegrassoftheearth,neitheranygreenthing,noranytree;butonlythemenwhohavenotthesealofGodupontheirforeheads.
5Andtothemitwasgiventhattheyshouldnotkillthem,butthattheyshouldbetormentedfivemonths,andtheirtormentwasasthetormentofascorpion,whenhestrikesaman.
6Andinthosedaysshallthemenseekdeath,andshallinnowayfindit;andshallyearntodie,anddeathshallfleefromthem.
7Andtheappearanceofthelocustswaslikehorsesprepareduntowar;andontheirheadswereasitwerecrownslikegold,andtheirfaceswereasthefacesofmen.
8Andtheyhadhairasthehairofwomen,andtheirteethwereastheteethoflions.
9Andtheyhadbreastplates,asitwerebreastplatesofiron;andthevoiceoftheirwingswasasthevoiceofchariotsofmanyhorsesrunningtowar.
10Andtheyhadtailslikescorpions,andtherewerestingsintheirtails,andtheirpowerwastohurtthemenfivemonths.
11Theyhadakingoverthem,whoisthemessengerofthebottomlesspit,whosenameintheHebrewtongueisAbaddon,andintheGreektonguehisnameisApollyon.
12Onewoehaspassed;and,behold,therecometwowoesmorehereafter.
13Andthesixthmessengerblew,andIheardavoicefromthefourhornsofthegoldenaltarwhichisbeforeGod,
14sayingtothesixthmessenger,whohadthetrumpet,“ReleasethefourmessengerswhoareboundinthegreatriverEuphrates.”
15Andthefourmessengerswerereleased,whowerepreparedforthehour,andday,andmonth,andyear,tokillthethirdpartofmen.
16Andthenumberofthearmiesofthehorsemenwastwohundredthousandthousand:Iheardthenumberofthem.
17AndsoIsawthehorsesinthevisionʰ,andthosewhosatonthem,havingbreastplatesoffire,andofjacinth,andbrimstone,andtheheadsofthehorseswereastheheadsoflions;andoutoftheirmouthsproceedsfireandsmokeandbrimstone.
18Bythesethree[plagues]wasthethirdpartofmenkilled,bythefire,andbythesmoke,andbythebrimstone,whichproceededoutoftheirmouths.
19Forthepowerofthehorsesisintheirmouthandintheirtails:fortheirtailswerelikeserpentsandhadheads,andwiththemtheydohurt.
20Andtherestʳofthemenwhowerenotkilledbytheseplaguesyetrepentednotoftheworksoftheirhands,thattheyshouldnotworshipthedemons,andtheidolsofgold,andsilver,andbrass,andstone,andofwood:whichneithercansee,norhear,norwalk:
21andtheyrepentednotoftheirmurders,noroftheirsorceries,noroftheirfornication,noroftheirthefts.
